Romanian Business Registrations Surge 22.8% in June 2025, Led by PFA Boom and Transport Sector Growth
BUCHAREST - Romania’s business registration landscape showed robust growth in June 2025, with new company formations increasing by 22.8% compared to the same month last year, according to official business registration data.
The country recorded 11,765, up from 9,583. This represents the strongest June performance in recent years and continues an upward trend in entrepreneurial activity.
Individual Entrepreneurs Drive Growth
The most dramatic growth came from individual entrepreneurs (PFA), which surged 76.7% year-over-year to 3,676. This substantial increase suggests growing confidence among individual professionals and small business operators in the Romanian market.
Limited liability companies (SRL), the most common business form, also showed healthy growth of 11.3%, reaching 7,677. However, some traditional business forms saw significant declines, with individual enterprises (IF) dropping 88.5% and partnerships (CA) falling 89.9%.
Sectoral Shifts Show Economic Transformation
The transport and storage sector emerged as the standout performer, growing 41.2% year-over-year to 11,855. This growth likely reflects Romania’s continued integration into European supply chains and the expansion of e-commerce logistics networks.
Wholesale and retail trade maintained its position as the largest sector with 11,942 registrations, though direct year-over-year comparisons are complicated by classification changes in the data. Professional, scientific, and technical activities remained strong with 6,810 registrations, indicating continued demand for specialized services.
Some traditional sectors showed declines, with manufacturing down 6.8% and agriculture falling 26.6%, suggesting ongoing structural shifts in the Romanian economy toward services and logistics.
Regional Growth Patterns
Bucharest continued to dominate business registrations with 2,682 new companies,. However, the most impressive regional growth came from Dolj County, which saw a remarkable 149.2% increase in registrations, followed by Prahova (42.3%) and Bacău (43.5%).
Business Exit Trends Show Mixed Signals
While new registrations grew substantially, business exits also increased in some categories. Dissolutions rose 35.9% to 4,391, and suspensions increased 22.9% to 1,665 companies.
However, the overall business churn rate showed improvement, with deregistrations falling dramatically by 85.6% to 6,545. This suggests that while some businesses are struggling,, but this represents a significant improvement from previous periods, with the net growth trend showing positive momentum of 33,907 companies.
